Da Hong Pao Oolong Tea

from 15.00

This medium size leaf tea is roasted to perfection! Upon brewing, the liquor is cherry red with a fragrance of roasted floral sweetness.

Da Hong Pao is an Oolong tea from Wu Yi mountain in mainland China. It is said that the Emperor of China was traveling through this mountain range when he became violently ill. A tea farmer witnessed the Emperor’s distress and quickly made him a pot of this tea. With a single pot, the Emperor’s illness was cured. The Emperor was so grateful that he took off his big red robe and gave it to the farmer. From that day on, this tea carried the name “Da Hong Pao,” (Big Red Robe).

Da Hong Pao is sweet and warm, entering the heart and providing feelings of comfort and ease. We find that this tea changes in character throughout the season, but most likes to be had during the cooler months of the year. Because of its roasted nature, Da Hong Pao can take a little extra heat in water temperature. It favors brewing around 200*F and goes for 6-10 rounds depending on how much leaf is used.
