For New Patients

Root & Branch offers a variety of different styles and approaches to practicing Chinese Medicine for you to choose from. These different forms of treatment reflect the practitioners' different training and experience and allow them to maximize their effictiveness for your well-being.

Reflective Approach

Practitioner: Travis Cunningham

The Reflective Approach is a method of Chinese Medicine treatment that focuses on attaining a detailed understanding of a person's experience of health. Once the experience of a person can be understood, treatment can be gentle, powerful, and precise. This style relies heavily upon pulse diagnosis, facial diagnosis, and vocal diagnosis. Emphasis is given to identifying the underlying patterns of a person's experience, which then translate into health or disease.

What to expect in your Initial Appointment:

Travis C. will talk with you about what brought you into the clinc and what you hope to accomplish with treatment. He will then examine your pulse using a detailed pulse analysis that takes between 30 and 45 minutes to complete. This deep exploration of the pulse provides insight into the patient's personality, emotions, and relative quality of health or disease within the organs of their body. The initial appointment may or may not include a small amount of time for acupuncture, or other intervention, as the condition requires.

At the end of your appointment Travis C. will present you with a proposed treatment plan and talk about the best ways to resolve your condition.

Constitutional Approach

Practitioner: Travis Kern

The Constitutional Approach is a method of Chinese Medicine treatment that looks closely at a person's core constitution. That is, a look at the factors both current and historical that have shaped the person in treatment today. This style relies heavily on facial diagnosis, tongue diagnosis, and patient medical history. There is a deep discussion of dietary habits and digestion with treatment focusing on lifestyle improvements and herbal intervention in addition to acupuncture.

What to expect in your Initial Appointment:

Travis K. will talk with you about what brought you into the clinic, take a detailed medical history, examine your face and body, look at your tongue, and examine your pulse briefly. Depending on the condition being treated, he may also do a physical assessment for range of motion and pain, examine the abdomen, the ears, the nose, or the eyes. The initial appointment will include a small amount of time for acupuncture, or other intervention, as the condition requires.

At the end of your appointment Travis K. will present you with a proposed treatment plan and talk about the best ways to resolve your condition.
